Great article about a group of research monkeys who were taught the value of money. This inevitably led to the monkeys trying to get the most bang for their buck, theft, and even prostitution.

Another brief article on the "cost" of monkey sex.

And since we're on the topic of monkeys emulating human behavior, and because everyone loves monkeys, I give I present the Lower Primate Committee Thinking Experiment.

one of the researchers, during the chaos event, observed how one of the monkeys exchanged money to another for sex. After the act was over, the monkey which was paid immediately used it to buy a grape Read more:

Wow. it seems even the very concept of money is enough to bring about some behaviour that we consider morally questionable

What i find hilarious is that nobody stops for a second and thinks:
in nature monkeys do not steal food? Surely not!
and in nature, monkeys do not provide, ehhm, sexual services for protection/food/grooming? Surely not!
It is the concept of money that corrupted monkeys, creatures known for their integrity, morality and family values.
Yes sir.

An excellent example of social conditioning

Start with a cage containing five apes, hang a banana on a string and put stairs under it. Before long an ape will go to the stairs and start to climb towards the banana.

Two of the four apes that beat him have no idea why they were not permitted to climb the stairs, or why they are participating in the beating of the newest ape.

Never the less, no ape ever again approaches the stair.

Why not? "Because that's the way it has always been around here."

After watching The Money Spell and What is Money? and then seeing the influence of money on the consciousness and behavior of monkeys, it's clear that money really is like a magic spell that changes everything!

Here's a song about money:
