After 31 years, REM announces that they are calling it quits...

After 31 years of making fantastic music together, the four members of REM are calling it quits as of today.

The band wrote in a statement issued on its website about the breakup: "To anyone who ever felt touched by our music, our deepest thanks for listening."

Personally I never liked them, they are up there with U2 for me...They had some good songs but they just werent my type.

I always thought they broke up years ago. Well 31 yrs is a long time in music and they did really well

Sad for their fans but good for them. They were a hell of band. Wonder if they are bugging out? JK or am I???

This is the WEIRDEST coincidence...I had to call my wife.
Just THIS morning, we were watching a documentary about the musical influence of Athens, GA.
there were some clips of very early REM performances.
I/we both wondered..."are they still together?"

Then I see the headline...about an hour after that.

So the answer is....retired?

Ok, now I'm quite sad.
