Space Instrument Observes New Characteristics of Solar Flares; Findings May Lead to Improved Space Weather forecasting

sciencedaily.com

NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory, which is carrying a suite of instruments including a $32 million University of Colorado Boulder package, has provided scientists with new information that energy from some solar flares is stronger and lasts longer than previously thought.

This is good and bad news respectably.
E.V.E. results are stating that the Radiation energy bombardment believed to be merely seconds to minutes has now turned out to actually to be upwards of five hours effecting our magnetosphere & ionosphere alike.
It has also been found with this data that the on going event reaches higher levels of energy than the peak flare itself.

the good news is with better observation & good data with E.V.E. ( Extreme ultraviolet Variability Experiment) and the SDO instrument AIA (Advanced Imaging Assembly, or AIA) we will have a better chance with space weather forecasting and earlier warning systems.

What does everyone think about these findings? and solar flares in our near future?
Look forward to everyone's take on this.
