vanuatu is an area where seismic andor volcanic activity of a moderate high magnitude are pretty common.

like you said, it just keeps happening there.

so what is exactly strange or out of the ordinary about this quake?

Perhaps this earthquake has something to do with a swelling of water and a freak 50 foot wave hitting California.
