Two LSU scientists who did a lot of work for the Federal Government have confirmed that samples of oil collected recently near the Macondo site match the oil from the Deepwater Horizon.
Oil fouling

This leaves many questions including where is it coming from, is it new or old, from a leak or just surfacing?

For more info see my 2 threads: Oil surfacing from the Macondo well and BP- the oil is still here and so are we.

BP and the US Coast Guard are stating they can't find any oil. At this point I have no idea who to believe anymore. Obviously BP lied about the leak in the first place and about how much oil really was spilling into the Gulf.

Coast Guard-no oil

HOUSTON—U.S. Coast Guard investigators and BP PLC have inspected the site of last year's Deepwater Horizon disaster and said they have found no evidence that the plugged well is leaking and were unable to locate a surface sheen reported there by a regional newspaper. The company and the Coast Guard sent a pair of remote-operated vehicles to the site of the capped well some 5,000 feet below the surface on Thursday. The inspection was prompted by reports of oil bubbling to the surface near BP's Macondo well site by Mobile Press-Register reporters, the company and the Coast Guard said.

So much for the Coast Guard not finding any oil! oil leaks

It appears there are 5 leaks, not just one.
