For those who know people that say "Oh, the government doesn't lie as much as you think" (like my mother says), or "Oh, they only lie to keep important things secret". Well, I say you need to have them watch a docu called "The Tillman Story". It's about former Arizona Cardinals safety Sgt. Pat Tillman who gave up millions of dollars in 2002 to join the Army Rangers and fight for his country. He was killed April 22, 2004 while deployed to Afghanistan. His death was first reported to have been at the hands of the Taliban, but after his funeral it was leaked that it was actually friendly fire. However it was continuously covered up and despite the mounting evidence to the contrary no one was ever truly held accountable and the blame was passed off on a retired three star General who was reduced to two star status as a result.

The reason I bring this up is because if the government only lies about "important secret things" then why have the lied about this for seven years now? Just admit their soldiers made an honest mistake. Granted that will never bring back Sgt. Tillman, but they should be held accountable for their decisions to cover it up. And what's more proof of an INTENTIONAL cover up? Specialist Bryan O'Neal who told his superiors the whole that it was friendly fire was kicked out of his unit and given a desk job, just so he wouldn't get in the way.

As I stated earlier, I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend you watch "The Tillman Story" as it will help show you what really happened to Sgt. Tillman as well as the kind of corruption that is rampant in our government, or as I liken it to a popularity contest, with the whole "We can't let this happen, it'll be too embarrassing for the family" type of thing. It's a film I plan to show my mother so she can hopefully see the kind of people we pay to "protect" us.

This is sadly what happens when you are very popular among people, then after witnessing first hand just how bad we are #ing up the other countries by invading them. You then make it known about your intentions of exposing the "terrorist" like acts of your own military to the general public. You will soon figure out how soon you will get shut up, especially when you are currently serving while you make your intentions known.

I watched a documentary on this guy, its really sad what happened. Can't say he didn't bring it on himself though as #ed up as that sounds. The gov/military do horrible things cross them and stuff will happen. Sadly this is the way I feel but at least I cared enough to at least acknowledge the documentary. A lot more than most people can say. People are so caught up in the American way of life they would never stand up an fight even if this sort of thing was thrown in their face.

Thank you for the thread.

In all honesty I haven't seen the story yet but I will soon. I can say this without seeing it or any other film. The US Govt needs an enema and a changing of the guard if for no other reason that The Elected Officials that hold posiitions currently, Don't deserve to be a part of the Leadership of The US or it's People even if were on the way out!!

PS I hope for better days for all people under this type of bondage or any other !!!

I think it was Winston Churchhill who said, "People usually get the government they deserve."

The exact words may be wrong, but I think they are close enough to convey what he was saying.

Your opinion is noted thx .. Now whats the point? Is Churchill an expert on Philosophy ? Was there an appointment to the level of a Judgeship for him I didn't know about ? Does this mean that he can Decide what people deserve on opinion he never met personally and knows nothing about ? Me being one of them..? I just wonder if he Walked On Water ?

Thanks for the thread..

The statement, People get the government they deserve, is merely an observation bore out through history. No philosophy. I do believe the statement by Churchill was directed at the German people of WW2.

I see.. Well then that means that all the people of Germany Were Foul? All of them? I am a US Vet and Half German and all German People in WW2 were Fould and deserving of Hitler. Granted some were powerless to resist him. If they had, They Died !! It just makes me think of the old saying and if it were "Mis quoted" it would say " All that glitters is gold " which would be a major folly !!

People get killed by friendly fire all the time in war and this should be a well known fact. Why should the government be broadcasting it and lowering morale?

Come clean in 50 years or so when it won't matter to the ongoing situation. I swear some people have no idea how things work. Of course it should have been covered up.

So I assume that you think the Tillman family deserved to be lied to as well. Or that Sgt. Tillman's wish to NOT be used as a propaganda tool was violated is acceptable? They don't HAVE to cover it up. Accidents happen, people know that, people understand that and accept it. But do they think we're mature enough to understand that accidents happen and misunderstandings occur? Apparently not and apparently you are of the same mind.

No need to lie. Simply tell them that their son was killed during combat. This is true and no further detail is needed beyond that.

Turning this into a major event does nothing but lower moral among the troops. EVERY nation's military know's that friendly fire happens, vehicle crashes occur, training exercises go wrong it comes with the job. The military hid the details as it was not relevant to anything.

This young man died defending his country and that's what he should be remembered for. It does not matter how he died whether it charging a hill under enemy fire or dieing in an overturned jeep on his way to get some chow. He is a hero regardless.

I personally believe the family should have been told from the start what happened to him. Then the government could have politely requested that the information be limited to immediate family only for the purpose of troop moral. Me, personally I would have been understanding and willing to do that. But to cover it up from everyone including the family, lying to them about it and not properly dealing with those who did it and destroyed evidence, that's unacceptable.

I dont need to watch it. He was a friend and a local hero. What happened in this situation is just wrong. He was a hero no matter how they doctored it up. Just a shame on our gov really.

I know what ya mean. It's amazing how dumb they think the American people are. I feel so bad for the Tillman family. My mother and I were just talking about this today and we both agreed we hope they never figure out which soldier fired the fatal shot(s). If was in the Tillman family I would feel bad for the guy who did because he's your friend and squad mate let alone a friendly. I just hope Sarge can rest in peace.
