Great post.

Despite debating this for days I had never considered this angle - very true though.

I doubt the morons involved have the brains to have made a conscience reaction to this. But it certainly demonstrates one of the core reasons we got in to this state - we are following our leaders. They lead by example. You are so right that they are no different, they steal from Bang & Olufsen not Curry's and Fortnum and Mason not Poundland.

For a bit of light relief to dilute the anger at these losers, have a look at this:

i.dailymail.co.uk..." target='_blank' class='tabOff'/>

They are raiding the Poundshop for crisps and fizzy drinks - T.O.T.A.L S.H.A.M.E.

The bad behaviour of our ruling classes is undoubtedly the cause and it has been going on for far too long, we are creating ignorant monsters. To add to your concept, the other reasons that I see:

1. Lack of respect
2. Lack of discipline
3. Failure to take responsibility for ones actions - it is always someone else or a bad situation to blame.
4. World owes me a living
5. Easy sentences for crime. Last Tuesday, after the worst night of the London riots, media reports stated prisons were full. Honestly - they wouldn't have been if 15 of them had been put in one cell - a la Thailand etc.
6. Benefits readily available to lazy people - not those who need it
7. Ludicrous application of Human Rights law

I loathe the ridiculous sometimes over zealous punishments they are dishing out at the moment. A miserable, mis-placed PR stunt in my eyes. Oh look at us dealing with the problem. The words horse and bolted spring to mind. It would be great if they stuck to such high standards but when this whole show is over we will return to criminal easy street.

People only behave as you allow them to. OP - you are spot on, this country has been positively encouraging it for years.

The hypocrisy of the Ruling Class is becoming more apparent every day. The bankers looted this country and they get nice bonuses at the end of the year, the super rich, loot the country by not paying taxes here and get knighted by the Queen. The MP's fiddle their expenses and receive a slap on the wrist. The young people go rioting and looting and lose their houses and benefits and face much tougher penalties than usual.

You should've enlarged on the tax end of things. Cameron has blatantly lied to to the public in parliament, when he said he would love to reduce taxation for us all but that the country/he cannot afford to do so.
However he has invited all the offshore interests, (many of them banks) to indulge in a UK free corporation tax, ie;
that they will only pay the same rate tax in that country they operate, here they will pay nothing on the money they bring here, currently they should pay the difference between any other country's rate of tax and the UK's. in the banks case alone then, not only do they get their bonus's, but they are getting a tax rebate as well, see here,

www.guardian.co.uk...

I encourage everyone to read the article, and to make their own minds up, and there will be counter arguments as to the idea being a good thing. One thing is sure though, he is rebating big money, in a SUBSIDY provided by the vast majorities of PAYE and small business, I think that is grossly wrong in the present circumstance, it is disgusting and political monotheism which means you prosper only and by if the ultra rich prosper.

I find a contradiction at the core of your post that has me confused as to your meaning.

The title being "The Simple, yet ignored truth behind the UK riots" and in the opening paragraph you write:

'The main assessment of the looting across London, however, is that it has nothing to do with a statement of politics, and everything to do with greed.'

You then go on to write this segment regarding what you believe is the ignored truth (the truth mentioned in your thread title):

'Indeed, far from the uprisings in recent months for political freedoms, these London riots, and the looting and ransacking which has occurred throughout, are fuelled by nothing more than opportunism and bare, basic greed.'

Isn't this, as you indicated in your opening post, exactly what the main assessment is?

Do as I say not as i do should be the motto of today's governments

People in a position to take advantage will for any event that advances their own goals. Always focus on a few often true details that allow people to insinuate an easily summarized version of why this event truly happened to a public that wants a simple answer that backs already held ideas or opinions. Which further helps to delude any other concept however valid that are counter to their 1 or 2 dimensional understanding of their reality because no matter the reason(s) that are behind any current event or situation people have been trained to focus on points that support their way interrupting making them choose elected official that best supports their one sided beliefs on a multi-layered and complex problem.
Which makes them impossible to fully understand and actually correct because one groups view on and solution for something is seen as counter productive to or the root behind the problems of other groups forcing these groups to oppose each other because they choose to view the scope or angle of the problem based on how it effects them from their place in the center making one side better then other which allows influential people to up play or down play what important to them rather then having people looking at the whole circle of society and critically think about the way it functions or how a change to one thing effects many others.

The US Congress is a good example of how to opposing groups can bitterly oppose each every way possible but still as a group act in their best interests because members of Congress are currently allowed to profit on insider trading!
even Martha freaking Stewert served five months in a federal prison for selling all 3,928 shares of her ImClone Systems stock a day before it tanked 16% avoiding a loss of $45,673
But if your member of Congress its all good

A bill that would require speedier disclosure of stock trades by lawmakers has languished for years on Capitol Hill,

Currently, those disclosures are filed once a year, and insider-trading laws generally do not apply ...

Ha... well picked. I guess i wasn't as clear as I should have been...

The point to my OP was that the bulk of the media commentators were pointing the blame at all number of things. The politicians, Cameron included, came out and denigrated the looters (rightfully so), and were quite vitriolic in their comments, blaming a culture of greed which was a result of these things. The overpaid footballers, the employment problems, the 'lazy youth culture'...

My point was that these politicians seem to have the ability to make these comments whilst keeping themselves safely at arms' length.

Yes, there does seem to be a huge problem with a culture of greed, but I think it's abhorent that the politicians can throw these comments around without considering their own recent habits of looting the public purse. This is the link that I think is being ignored. Why do we even listen to politicians when they make these sort of comments, given their own rorts from only 15 months ago...

I think it's great. This is what you get when you allow greedy people to completely rule your Nation, just as we have, and at the same time you allow a turd World invasion and become a Socialist nanny state. How about that Internationalism! It's so great isn't it? LMAO!. This is only the tip of the iceberg. It's only gonna get worse and if and when the crap hits the fan, The usual suspect puppet masters will just fly away on their private jets and land on a runway that's location is in the next Nation that they will conquer with their bottomfeeding, carpetbagging, vile Laws, practices and policies. The story has historically repeated itself again and again and again ever since Roman times, or probably even much earlier. Sheople will be herded again. Bow down to your masters! ~SheopleNation

I consider most things about politicians to be abhorrent! This is the way they act, always have & seemingly always will. It's in their nature to play the blame game, pointing fingers randomly & sometimes desperately (overpaid footballers is an example) to find something or someone to take the blame & wrap this up nicely.

In no way could they consider that they themselves, as architects of policy & so society are partly to blame. For it is indeed a social problem. They (the rioters for want of a better term) are products of their environment & their environment was shaped by government policy.

I understand that is an extremely simplified version of a complex topic.

In regards to the expenses scandal, being surprised that a politician is a hypocrite is something I stopped doing a good while ago & while its an interesting link, its far from being the truth behind the riots themselves.

You know what’s occurring to me the more I ponder this whole situation…

The ‘dream’ USED to be that people wanted to get rich so they could SPEND money – on things to have the life of luxury… houses, cars, flatscreen televisions…

But NOW it seems that the ‘dream’ is to get rich so one can use that wealth to SAVE money. They want to be rich purely to make MORE money – to put themselves into positions of power where you can ‘steal’ a television without having to break a store window, where you can ‘steal’ taxpayer money to renovate a house and make a profit when selling, to have enough capital wealth that you can avoid paying as much tax as possible. Where, because you wear a suit, you can hide almost any despicable acts behind 'oversights' and 'accounting errors'.

I mean, these guys are re-claiming money from the taxpayer because they bought some biscuits or Branston pickle... because they put $5 into a church collection... Of all the people who could afford to cover such insignificant expenses... it makes me shake my head. Given what these people must earn as an hourly rate, surely filling in the paperwork and lodging it to get their money back simply isn't worth it? Unless, of course, the taxpayer is paying for that hourly rate as well...

There used to be a saying that “Money goes where it’s most needed, and stays where it’s most respected”. I used to believe it, but I don’t any more… I really don’t…

Just a ' way out there' thought stream...

What if we are too caught up in the media event and looking at it all wrong and missing an important chance to 'see' things as they are ?

For example..and if for tbtb, 'as above so below' is a literal 'truth' - as they say it is... try removing that from heaven/earth concepts of the same and applying it to a sideways social perspective.

TPTB apparently consider themselves the 'top' or 'above' and the rioting youthful mutants are representative of the 'bottom' or 'below'. So by turning your head sideways perspectively speaking, with these riots in London we may have just gotten a glimpse into whats really going on at 'the top' behind the veneer of 'business as usual' they keep putting out.

Now that the timewave is shortening and events preceeding apace..one effect at the 'top' is that all the anchors are moving on, the big ole daddy's are dying or leaving, unprepared junior executive kids are being left to their own devices for the first real time in a generation and faced with real world responsibility for the first time the rats are jumping ship and the spoilt and previously uncaring kids have been left in charge and are freaking out all over trying to abdicate their personal responsibility for the mess they've been left and know they will be blamed for. So they're double dipping, stealing what material wealth is left to steal looting the world markets, raping the resources, taking what they want, what they think has 'value' but doesnt. They're getting their own 'back' and usurping all authority in a mad plunge to get what they think their owed or deserve.

As so above, below? I dont know..but it sure as hell looks like it from here.

I know..it's a stretch..but its not a big one to me as stepping back I see both groups are twin ends of the same social spectrum and I feel that comprehending this can give a huge insight into things going on at the 'top' - as they really are not as we think they are or might be. Both groups are currently venting like unmanned firehoses unsure what to do next, both groups are operating on fear. With both ends in that state, and the middle being undermined and attacked at every turn, .it's certainly going to be an interesting time.

I just found it intersting to look at it this way..time will tell if the persepctive shift has any merit I supose.

So hundreds probably thousands of people all decide to be hooligans all at the same time? There just like ok guys lets go smash some stuff and everyone agrees and goes with it. Nah see you guys all think there just out to cause mischief when the mainsteam media thinks there are other reasons such as religion/racism (go figure). Most likely there trying to send everyone a message... and trolls dont ask me what the message is I'm not high and almighty know it all like you guys, you figure it out. My guess would be though there tired of sh*t they deal with everyday and there showing everyone they can do whatever the hell they want.

And of course they are robbing people and stores, its the best time to do it. The president could come on the air today and announce the world will end tomorrow from an asteroid impact and there would be millions of people out robbing stores and people. You would see people walking down the street carrying tv's that they just stole. Ask yourself what good is a TV if your dead, but there would be people doing it.

Great work OP. Our culture of enriching the richest at the expense of the poorest has been growing since Thatcher read about Milton Friedman. The breakdown of society is the direct result of this and a whopping big elephant in the room that far too many people refuse to acknowledge.

That my friend pretty much sums up where we (the English) are now as a nation. Thatcher instilled a disgusting raft of values into our society and we have seen the constant decay ever since. We used to have a sense of fairplay and morality which that hideous crone and her cohorts dessimated. We truley are a broken nation, educated by henious zenophobic tabloids. There is also a massive underclass that have no aspirational hope whatsoever. people say the class system in this place is long gone, but I can promise you all it is still as sprocketUK put it, The elephant in the room and it aint goin anywhwere soon.

Great post. Your PM should be reminded of these facts next time he talks about restoring "morality". These scoundrels in suits should be exposed for what they are, but I don't think it will happen.

As Bob Dylan once said:

Steal a little and they throw you in jail
Steal a lot and they make you king

For the riots, as is the case with everything else, we have to look 180 degrees in the opposite direction to find out the truth.

The Government has 'forgotten' what its role is and has deliberately hidden from us who we are and what our role is.

I can't encourage people enough to watch these videos and learn the truth about who you are. This is truly empowering information.

'But I don't think it will happen' is another phrase for apathy. We have to raise a total stink about these looters in suits, and that means that everyone has to get over their apathy and actually do something - write letters, send emails, join groups, speak to others to make them aware of it.

The same thing is happening here in America. Just look at governmentgonewild.net they are reporting the same things over here. We have a politician that was charged with tax evasion yet and misusing Official Letterhead and several other crimes and he is still in office. Mr. Snipes an action movie star did the same thing and he is now serving 3 years in prison. A. Capone did the same thing and he was sent to prison. But because he is in this corrupt organization called Congress he still has his job and is not in prison. Until America wakes up to this corruption things are just going to get worse. The only Plus in America over UK, we get to keep and carry firearms. They want to remove our firearms so only the criminals will have them. This includes the Police.
