15 shot, 6 dead in (1) 24 hour period in Detroit

What did not make the news yet is the Chief has decided the Police Department is working 12 hour shifts every day until further notice. No days off have been cancelled so it wont result in any gain in manpower on the street but the Chief knows his job is on the line right now.

DETROIT (WXYZ) - It was a deadly 24 hours in the city of Detroit. From 6:00 am Friday, August 12th to 6:00 am Saturday, August 13th, a total of fifteen people were shot in the city. Six of those victims died. There was a total of nine separate shooting scenes.

Well usually citywide there are on average 3 to 5 shootings a day, last night was also a full moon so that also could have a bearing on things.

DPD Raid 90 Homes, Arrest Over 600

Detroit Police say they’ve conducted dozens of raids in the last six weeks netting them millions of dollars in drugs.WWJ’s Marie Osborne reports that since July 1st, Detroit police have raided more than 90 homes, in one of the city’s biggest busts ever.

“Since July first, we have raided a total of 90 homes, arrested 616 individuals and confiscated 69 firearms,” Police Chief Ralph Godbee said. “We’ve taken in about $3.5 million worth of heroin, coc aine, marijuana, various pills, Oxycontin and things of that nature, and over $360,000 in cash and narcotic proceeds.”

Godbee said the raids took place thanks to citizen tips, a trend he’s happy to see develop.

My brother is a cop and he's told me they tend to have a lot of officers take sick days on nightshift when there if a full moon because they know it is going to be a busy night, so a star for that comment.

Technically that is nothing more than usual, raid crews are expected to do at least two raids a day along with various federal task forces also raiding that is nothing more than a PR release to say look we did something....

You take $3.6 million in heroine and coc aine off Detroits streets.....yer lucky it's only 6 dead.

Actually 5 of the people shot were all at one location. They were attending a welcome home party for someone who just got out of jail.....That one could likely be "gang" violence or as you state he might have lost a large amount of drugs and someone came to collect payment, when he got out of jail.
