Pretty big quake. Not on the USGS website yet. Doesn't seem to be a lot of large population centers around this one though.

USGS is reporting a 4.2

RSOE is reporting a 5.8

State media say 26 people have been injured and more than 30 homes damaged by a strong earthquake in western China's Xinjiang region. Three of those injured are in critical condition. The national earthquake monitoring center said Thursday's quake registered magnitude 5.8 and was centered near the city of Atux at a depth of 5 miles (8 kilometers). The U.S. Geological Service put the magnitude at 5.2 and said it struck 22 miles (35 kilometers) beneath the surface. China's worst earthquake in recent years was a 7.9-magnitude temblor in the western province of Sichuan in May 2008. It left nearly 90,000 people dead or missing.

It seems that the area in question is active and has had quakes for decades, while its not on USGS im inclined to believe it based on the history of the area alone.
Good post.

USGS is known for scrubbing quakes, I got that from the global seismic monitor, they're better and I'm looking on RSOE now.

If it's of interest to anyone, this site shows a nice map for geographic location of the quake. It looks like a real isolated area.
