This little bell survived in a sewage drainage system for about 2,000 years ago. Sources say that it is from the Second Temple era, making it one of the earliest relics to be found dating back to that time period.

The article does say that Jewish high priests were known to have bells sewn onto their robes but it is impossible to know for certain if the bell did indeed belong to a high priests.

Pretty cool find.

That it is gold indicates high status, and symbolically, for religious purposes, incorruptibility. Most excitingly, it is shaped to resemble a shell, which ties in to much older traditions and death rites. High Priest, or Priestess, seems most likely.

They should have said it was the dinner bell from the Last Supper. It could have fetched a fortune on eBay.
