On June 16th of 2004, then Representative Porter Goss, introduced new legislation that would allow the president to authorize CIA agents to be able to take action within the US. The type of actions that the president could then authorize, if this bill were to pass, would include various law-enforcement operations that could be as extreme as arresting US citizens. If this intelligence reform bill passes, the currently standing 57 year ban of CIA operations on US soil would disappear overnight.

Aug. 11 - Rep. Porter Goss, President Bush�s nominee to head the CIA, recently introduced legislation that would give the president new authority to direct CIA agents to conduct law-enforcement operations inside the United States�including arresting American citizens.

The legislation, introduced by Goss on June 16 and touted as an �intelligence reform� bill, would substantially restructure the U.S. intelligence community by giving the director of Central Intelligence (DCI) broad new powers to oversee its various components scattered throughout the government.

Are we about to become a police state? While there have been extreme violations of civil liberties by the US government since 9/11/2001 almost none are quite as terrible as the future envisioned by Porter Goss. This legislation would effectively give the president a type of Gestapo, a secret police, that could carry out the direct will of one man.

Whether you support Republicans or Democrats everyone must realize how serious this legislation is. What is even more disturbing is that there has been all but a media blackout on coverage of this bill. This story goes beyond simple politics and needs to be recognized for what it is, the beginning of a total change in the type of freedom that America allows.

We need to deny ignorance now and learn about this intelligence reform bill and what it may hold for America's future.

That is probably one of the scariest things I have seen in a very long time. There are very valid reasons we do not want our "spy" agency operating within the US. This has never worked for any other country. We have an FBI and if it is not doing what needs to be done we should fix it instead of putting spys on our streets with the power to arrest and detain.

Next we will see special camps to hold these folks when arrested. Oh wait, I forgot...

Sorry to say they do operate in the US, they just don't admit to it. This a bad preident to set. FBI and other groups are to work in the us and the CIA in other countries.
