For a few hours, downtown Downers Grove stood still, NBC5's Charlie Wojciechowski reported.
"It was very strange walking around town, trying to walk into a restaurant or a store," said resident Susan Shields. "They were all locked."
A public works crew told police they found something that looked like a pipe bomb in one of the flower planters along Main Street. Police cleared the
area, evacuated local businesses on Main between Curtis and Maple, and called in the DuPage County bomb squad.

The Dupage County Bomb Squad was called and the explosive device was detonated. It was determined to be a legitimate explosive device. No other
devices were found near the area.
Police are still searching for clues as to who planted the device and why. Residents were concerned as to why a bomb would be planted in such a quiet
small town, but these things can happen anywhere.
