i learned how to make this at work (im a nursery assistant) its a money saver and great for the kids.

Playdough (aka Play-doh) is easy to make at home, and fun for kids of all ages. i will provide various easy to do recipes for both cooked playdough and uncooked

over the pan play dough

You will need:

1 cup plain (all-purpose) flour

½ cup salt

2 tablespoons cream of tartar (optional this just makes it more elasticated)

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

1 cup water with food coloring added

1 teaspoon vanilla essence (optional but it makes the playdough smell nice!)

Put all the ingredients into a large saucepan, and stir over a medium heat until the dough forms into a ball. Allow to cool, and then knead until smooth.

Store in an airtight container (a Ziploc bag with the air pressed out is good).
----------------------

non cook playdough

What You Need

3 cups flour
1 1/2 cups salt
3 tablespoons oil
1 cup water
food coloring

In a large mixing bowl, combine 3 cups flour, 1/2 cups salt, 3 tablespoons oil and 1 cup water. Mix well.
If desired, divide dough into four portions.
Add food coloring to tint each portion as desired.
Play! Mold and shape to your heart's content.

Tips:

This is temporary play dough; it will dry out. Add more water if necessary, but plan to throw the whole mess away when playtime is over.
