A study warns about Variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease epidemy in UK because many might be infected by vCJD prions without knowing it.

A significant number of people in the UK may be harbouring vCJD with no clinical symptoms, reveals the study of a new case. The work suggests the epidemic of the human form of mad cow disease may be far from over.

I'm not convinced it's an epidemic, as I recall only 150 people have contracted vCJD, which is hardly an epidemic within a population of 60 million.

I believe there have been 2 cases where the internal organs have been affected but not the brain, which is a relatively new find, but once again, epidemic, I think not.

The article says that 50% of UK's population might be in danger of being infected. And also the current number of infected is unknown because vCJD might have no symptoms in the beginning.
