northern Mid-Atlantic Ridge (Latitude: 31.2589, Longitude: -41.0028)The 21 May 2011 at 4:30 PM (UTC), in northern Mid-Atlantic Ridge there was a seismic activity of
magnitude 5.0 and depth 9.90Km.
Estimated population within 60km: none or few people.

This worries me a bit guys. I have been watching the quakes since January of this year and there has been only 2 small quakes in the mid atlantic, being in the 3.0 range, and today of all days being Harold Camping's "rapture", a freakin' 5.0 and directly south, in the south atlantic (obviously) we have these three quakes

South Sandwich Islands region (Latitude: -56.0700, Longitude: -27.0200)The 21 May 2011 at 12:16 AM (UTC), in South Sandwich Islands region there was a seismic activity of
magnitude 6.5 and depth 33.00Km.
Estimated population within 60km: none or few people

South Sandwich Islands region (Latitude: -56.0664, Longitude: -27.1652)The 21 May 2011 at 12:16 AM (UTC), in South Sandwich Islands region there was a seismic activity of
magnitude 5.6 and depth 64.80Km.
Estimated population within 60km: none or few people.

South Sandwich Islands region (Latitude: -55.9966, Longitude: -27.1955)The 21 May 2011 at 12:41 AM (UTC), in South Sandwich Islands region there was a seismic activity of
magnitude 5.1 and depth 40.70Km.
Estimated population within 60km: none or few people.

What if the whole time, everyone is focusing on this "rapture", anticipating a CA mega quake, false flag, etc, but then BAM, a mega quake in the mid atlantic sending a tsunami in all directions...not trying to fear monger, just saying. Keep your eyes on this folks.

*EDIT* The reason this disturbs me is because i live on the east coast, USA.

A 5.6????? oh noe everyone head for the hills!!!!!1 Seriously, a 5.0-5.7 earthquake is nothing. Why is everyone posting these insignificant EQ's? 5.0 EQ's happen every day, in every part of the world. Besides, it was practically in the ocean, no civilization even close.

Are you located in the middle of the ocean between Antarctica and South America? Cause that is where the EQ was, the epicenter is hundreds of miles from any habitable island. Just saying, people need to stop making so many threads on meaningless EQ's.

Actually a few weeks ago there was a 5.0 on the mid Atlantic ridge. Now if there were multiple 5's today, I might be a little worried.

Anyone who doesn't know how this fault works, its not a megathrust fault where plates are subducting (sliding under another) but they are seperating apart forming a rift. However in this region as the land subsides it leaves cliff walls that line across the rim of the fault.
You can see this evidentially at Thingvillier in Iceland where the fault crosses the island, cliffs tens of meters high line either side of the rift-valley some 20 miles in diameter west to east.

Any sub-ocean earthquake could have a large section of cliff-face beneath the waters breaking off which would cause enough displacement (no matter how large the quake) to cause a substantial Tsunami threatening the Americas and Europe. Only Buoys would be our first calling that something is on the way, even then the wave wouldn't be amplified until it reaches land. By which time its true known height and impact might be too late to save many.

Rudd - interesting you should mention Iceland - in the last hour they've had 3 quakes out of nowhere including a 4.6 - EMSC is my source

A 5.0 is not big.

It's also not signaling an impending rapture.

The annual average of eq 5 -6 is 1.300 more or less.
We now had 1189 earthquakes between 5 and 6.
And that the thing that worries me. There are so many this year

A different way of looking at quake stats...
Instead of a rolling avg., a year-to-date.

Magnitude 8 - 9.9
2011 Earthquakes (1)
annual average (1)
100% of 20yr. YTD avg. until day #141

Magnitude 7 - 7.9
2011 Earthquakes (8)
annual average (14)
145% of 20yr. YTD avg. until day #141

Magnitude 6 - 6.9
2011 Earthquakes (119)
annual average (134)
230% of 20yr. YTD avg. until day #141

Magnitude 5 - 5.9
2011 Earthquakes (1,189)
annual average (1,319)
233% of 20yr. YTD avg. until day #141
