Huge swells scare Coral Coast dwellers

Huge swells struck roads, villages and hotels along the Coral Coast leaving people dashing for high ground this morning.

Still waiting for any footage. It's nothing like a tsunami but if it sent the people on the coast running for the hills, I'm sure it was a sight to see.

The story has been updated and they state "similar to tidal waves".

Huge waves similar to tidal waves are expected to hit Fiji at 9pm tonight.

This has been confirmed to FijiLive by the Acting Director for Meteorology, Dr Aminiasi Tuidraki.

Dr Tuidraki said this is due to the low pressure system hovering over the Fiji group which is generating the huge sea swells.

He said the public has been warned to prepare for the next high tide that will be at 9pm tonight.
