Banged up abroad.

I watched a couple of episodes of this last night. It's a great documentary series about people getting caught trafficking drugs throughout the world. This is a great episode of 2 English guys, never been out of their town before who go to Venezuela on a drugs run.

There are quite a few episodes in the series and are well worth a watch/

It's a very interesting show this ... However, when the people are being interviewed or are telling their story in this show, they act as if they did nothing wrong and were used or something ...

Every single time they've known exactly what they were doing and the consequences, so I don't get the gist of this show at all ...

They've done wrong and then should be punished ... How's that a show???

Yeah cool ... And then I can star in a show called "Banged up Abroad" and cry about how I was sent to jail for handling large amounts of drugs

Watching the show, the main things you notice are that most are driven by a dangerous combination of greed and stupidity. Still I wouldn't wish the punishments on anyone.

Seen a few episodes of this Woody.
Whilst I feel a certain sympathy and even empathy, (maybe there's an element of 'there but for the grace of god.....' ), the vast majority of them go into it knowing full well what the consequences are.

I have a friend who did 10years in a Japanese prison....his first day there he was asked to pick something off a menu, he chose Chicken and Rice which he proceeded to get for every single meal of the whole sentence....and the term 'Chicken' was highly dubious at times.

He has told me lot's of stories about his time there, not many which I would relate here, but he has never once expressed any bitterness at the length of the sentence or the conditions of his imprisonment - he knew the possible repercussions of getting caught and accepted it.

The only bitterness I've heard from him was about the two British coppers who got a jolly flying out to Japan and escorting him home to the UK when he'd finished his sentence.
On the flight home they kept his handcuffs on the whole flight, even during meals and laughed at him when he requested a bottle of beer whilst they were knocking back quite a few.

I agree it's good viewing and it probably deserves an airing on one of the main terrestrial channels.

Yeah, I know what you mean, most of the people knew exactly what they were doing and should have known the risks involved. I think going to prison has always been one of those things that has scared the crap out of me, probably because Im a bit of a sensitive wuss and would not be able to handle prison life, even in the UK. The idea of doing it in somewhere like Thailand or Venezuela is as close to the idea of hell you could probably get.

All jails are horrible mate, I wouldn't fancy doing 15minutes in one nowadays let alone 15years.

But you have to condition yourself to it and find a way to handle it, you would be surprised at just how resilient you would be when you have to be.

I reckon Drug smugglin only becomes a crime when committed by joe soap........

It's a human interest show more than anything else and as I have a friend currently serving 28 years in a Thai prison it has more interest to me than others.
