A lot of mention about conpsiracy theories in the news

I'm a fairly young person and I really only got into politics and the news within the last few years, so I haven't had a chance to keep up with the evolution of the news media throughout the decades. I was watching the different news stations today and I couldn't help but keep my focus on how often I heard news hosts and casters mention the term conspiracy theory and conspiracy theorists as of late regarding the Osama Bin Laden assassination.

However, watching the news and keeping up with the mainstream media for the past few years I haven't heard conspiracy theories or conspiracy theorists mentioned all that often. Is this something that's a new trend in the news or has this been happening for years? I'm curious to hear some of the thoughts that other ATS members have on what the deal is with the sudden interest that the news stations have with conspiracy theorists. Did they just recently become some kind of target for negative publicity that I'm not aware of?
