Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi wants all Arab nations to join together and fight the terrorists. Allawi was in Saudi Arabia to discuss the possibilities of an all Arab security force to eventually replace the US soldiers in Iraq. The Saudi's are working on a plan right now which if it approved, could lead to the replacement of US forces with forces of the Arab nations.

JIDDAH, Saudi Arabia - Iraqi Prime Minister Ayad Allawi urged Islamic countries Thursday to "stand as one group" against terrorists and voiced support for formation of Saudi-led Muslim force to help stabilize his country.

In London, an Arab League official said any such force would only be acceptable if ordered by the U.N. Security Council and linked to a specific timetable for withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq.

This is a good first step in solving the US presence in Iraq, the next few weeks should be interesting to see if these goals can be reached.

Allawi voiced support for a Saudi-led initiative under which Muslim countries would be encouraged to contribute to a new force that would try to bring stability to Iraq.

Under the Saudi proposal, Arab and Muslim countries that do not border on Iraq would be invited to contribute.

Iraq believes involvement by its neighbors in the country's security could ultimately lead to political conflicts with them.

Some of the countries mentioned as possible participants in a security force are Malaysia, Algeria, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Morocco and Pakistan (which is among the many countries that Iraqi officials have contacted in recent weeks).

Powell welcomed the Saudi initiative and said the time may be ripe for a more active role by Arab and Muslim countries based on the handover of sovereignty to Allawi, along with the approval of a UN Security Council resolution that gives legitimacy to his interim government.

"They now have a sovereign government that is up and running," Powell said. "Based on that, there will be more intensive discussions on the basis of the Saudi initiative to see if more countries are willing to provide support."

Libyan leader Gadhafi has urged fellow Arab and Muslim nations not send troops into Iraq - and a militant Islamic group has posted an Internet warning that threatens any Islamic or Arab nation that contributes troops to the proposed Muslim force for Iraq.

Arab and Muslim troops should not be sent to Iraq unless the occupation forces withdraw," JANA quoted Gadhafi as saying in a statement. He also said that a United Nations resolution was also needed to sanction sending these troops to the war-torn Arab country
