I'm trying to give you a good idea as to what your children are being
subjected to.

I understand many ATSers don't like the art form known as Hip-Hop.

But I'm trying to raise a very important topic:

Do you ever listen to the lyrics?

Here is a video that got 224,506,246 views:

Let me get to my point: There is a very deep rooted conspiracy in the Hip-Hop
world and I wish ATS would do a better job of acknowledging this.

Conspiracies in the Entertainment Industry would be a nice forum.

These lyrics can be interpreted in a few different ways.
What exactly is the issue?
What do they mean to you?

I know what you mean. Look at all the warnings we had about Rock'n'Roll--and parents still let their kids listen to it anyway. Or tried to stop them, and the little snots completely disobeyed them and listened to it in secret, under their blankets at night, with their little transistor radios. Boy. Kids. Flout authority at every turn. Oughta be a law....

Did you know the video you posted in the OP, Not Afraid by Eminem is actually seen as pretty anti NWO.

It's actually a favourite of mine and I see it as very positive and anti establishment, for example from the lyrics...

And I just can’t keep living this way So starting today, I’m breaking out of this cage I’m standing up, Imma face my demons I’m manning up, Imma hold my ground I’ve had enough, now I’m so fed up Time to put my life back together right now

I can't see the above as anything other than a positive stand, he is of course talking about himself but also fans that relate to him and his music too, and fans singing it are singing words about standing up and fighting your demons etc. very positive I think

It was my decision to get clean, I did it for me Admittedly I probably did it subliminally for you So I could come back a brand new me, you helped see me through And don’t even realize what you did, believe me you I been through the ringer, but they can do little to the middle finger I think I got a tear in my eye, I feel like the king of My world, haters can make like bees with no stingers, and drop dead No more beef fingers, no more drama from now on, I promise To focus soley on handling my responsibility’s as a father So I solemnly swear to always treat this roof like my daughters and raise it You couldn’t lift a single shingle lonely Cause the way I feel, I’m strong enough to go to the club and lift the whole liquor counter up Cause I’m raising the bar, I shoot for the moon But I’m too busy gazing at stars

Just like above, he's talking personally about himself but relating a message, and getting off drugs, thanking his fans and committing as a father while cutting the crap and the drama yet again is a positive thing don't you think?

I won't analyse the whole lyrics, and I agree there's a lot of messed up messages in songs but I really don't see this as one of them.

Wait a minute, are you trying to say that rock and roll and it's various subgenres are all bad? How dare you throw such silly accusations.

To be honest, I don't listen to rap or hip hop, even R&B gets ignored by me plus other crap like grime etc. If the idiots listening to it wanna be dumbed down then let them, if they wanna get gunned down let them. Just makes more room for us metallers

I am NOT having much luck with parody/sarcasm on this site! Check the tone; read the words. Doesn't it sound like I was one of those kids tuning in to Wolfman Jack under my covers with my little tinny-sounding 1960s mono transistor radio?

You know, people will be what they're going to be. If they listen to hiphop/rap/whatever, that's not going to make them what they're not. Some will grow out of it and be decent people and good citizens; some of them won't. It only depends on what they already are inside. "Freedom of speech," my friends. You have to defend the rights even--some say especially--of those whose free speech you hate. Let it go, seriously....

The RZA is not hiphop either.. that beat might sound hiphop-ish, but his style is mostly too 'gangster' to be called anything but rap.

This is hip hop

The only conspiracy I see is the one to make all rappers look like they're in the Illuminati or Freemasons because they use hand signs or have triangles in their music videos.

But you’ll probably be the same one hating
Saying every rapper is in the freemasons
While the cops giving out free mace to your face
Now how do that taste
I’m outta my mind
These video’s tellin’ yall lies, bruh
Tellin yall, we holding evil hand signs bruh
Last time I checked I’m from the eastside bruh
So do your research and make ya own mind up
’cause us musicians have influence on this mic
But they don’t like that so they conquer and divide

Are you sure about that?

Some of this hip-hop/rap bashing borders on ignorance and racism.

If you listen to anything but mainstream rap i think you'd be very surprised. Most underground/Indie rappers have the most amazing and relevant lyrics to whats happening in the world and their own industry it would really blow your mind. Also most seem to be very in to conspiracies and im sure more than a handful lurk the boards here. I wont even get into the whole Rap/Hip Hop debate as again anything mainstream seems to neglect the true roots of the genre.

I imagine most would be eager to form a solid opinion of Hip Hop and its entirety based on a couple of songs they heard on the radio and/or 'Hip Hop Dance' workshops
