Pathetic thats all that i can say. this state is going to hell in a hand basket unfortunatly there are to many sympathizers out here that overrun those of us who still have morals and stand for what is right. all i can say is out Government in this state sucks. I dont care what the state says it is still wrong and our children dont need to be taught this crap my state really disgusts me thinkin it may be time to get out

As a mother of three children in the California public school system, I have no trouble with them teaching tolerance. However, with as many things that are cut, due to spending more time focusing on learning how to take tests, what are they going to cut, to fit this in? I don't think my children are learning half of the things I learned in their respective grades. I will often bring up subjects with my son who is in Jr. High and he'll tell me, "No, we didn't learn that, I am sure I'll learn it in high school." *faceplam* Perhaps, they are saving even the things I learned in 2nd grade for high school, but I some how doubt that.
When I was in school we actually learned penmanship and cursive. My son going into 5th grade says they have gone over it and learned some, but if I write something to him in cursive he can't read it yet. I remember doing cursive in 3rd grade not 5th. I do my best to stay on top of things and fill in the blanks where the schools are failing, but sometimes you forget certain things until it comes up in a conversation, or something else reminds you of it.
I often hear about teachers complain about the lack of parental involvement, but I'll tell you what, 50% of the teachers get annoyed when I try to get involved. I don't think its that they don't want me involved, but that they just don't have the time, because they have to many students to deal with.

Sorry for the rant, my whole point is, where are they going to fit this in? Cut more of the basics for unnecessary stuff?
