NEWS: Fort Detrick Infectious Disease Labs Closed for FBI Investigation

Mystery surrounds the closing of laboratories at USAMRIID, Fort Dertrick, Maryland. Apparently the closure is to assist an FBI investigation. Officials stress there is no threat to the public.

Fromwhat I read they are investigating someone related to the anthrax mailings, why would they close the building for that reason? Couldnt they just take him away instead of closing the place?

Forensic evidence. When there's suspicion of a crime, they seal the crime scene.

Problem with that is, infectious desease labs are propably the best cleaned and sterile kept invironments on the globe. Asif you'll find any kind of evidence there after 3 years!!!

I severly doubt they'll find anything, i would think all those labs would be at least lvl 3, after 3 years, anytihng that was there is LONG gone

Dood point about the buildinds being "clean rooms". What they may be doing is checking their"stock" of microbes to see if any were taken. They might also try to compare the anthrax found in buildings to what they had on hand to see if their is a link.

When denied nutrients, anthrax covers itself with a tough shell rather like armour plating and can remain dormant for decades. Look at the trouble Porton Down had in decontaminating Gruinard Island after the WW2 anthrax experiments. It was finally said to be clear of anthrax in 1990 after a team managed by the late Dr Kelly spent 4 years working on the problem.
Fort Detrick also had a major problem in the past with anthrax contamination in the notorious Building 470.

There may be a chance that the FBI has been tipped off that another batch of anthrax identical to that used in the attacks has been prepared in the Fort Detrick Laboratories.

For some time now there has been items in the news with regards to Smallpox. It is said that only two facilities have the last known samples of the virus. The USA and the UK. As I am sure you all know, the two aforementioned Nations have stockpiled the vacination for smallpox, so why if the two nations are the only holders of the virus are they stockpiling the vacination??

Answer: The virus has been sold to a third party, and intellingence is showing that a future attack is imminant, where and when is unknown. Hence authorities searching the lab in the USA, and questioning personnel.

The UK have been told to stock up on water and canned goods, is this due to a possible food/water contamination. The Anthrax possibilities are easier for the public top accept, as our experience of it's use has been mainly aimed at individuals rather than a nation.
