Add Linda Ronstadt to the list of celebs fired for anti-Bush remarks...

She dedicated a song to Michael Moore. "Desperado"

That's it. No anti-Bush remarks? Nothing really.

I guess they can fire whoever they want. But the half of the audience that went on a vandalism rampage should be ashamed of themselves.

I just can't believe she said nothing about Bush. Just dedicated a song to someone half the audience hates and gets fired. If she had dedicated it to Bush, half the audience would have hated him too!

:shk: Stupid people.

Can we review:

- A song dedication
- No foul language
- No disparaging of the pResident
- No endorsement of any political party

What happened:
- An icon is escorted from the grounds
- An icon has her room emptied, without being allowed to return, and her stuff is sent to the tour bus
- An icon is "banished" from the Alladdin Cascino & Hotel

What she said:
"I'd like to dedicate this next song to Michael Moore. He is someone who cares about this country deeply and is trying to help."

That's it. Nothing more.

The liberal's definition of "Censorship": when a liberal speaks out and is disagreed with.
It is absolutely the right of Linda Ronstadt, The Dixie Chicks, or Michael Moore to voice their opinions onstage during a non-political event. It is also the right of anyone else to disagree with what they say and boo them.
It is also the right of the Aladdin as a business to fire her for whatever reason they deem necessary.

Americans have the right to free speech, but the problem is that many Americans think this right means that they can say what they want and be free of consequences. If a person is arrested because of comments, then that's censorship.

Some other recent comments by Linda Ronstadt:

"I saw a movie recently about a camel and these people in Mongolia, and I relate to them better than people here in this country. It looks like (Germany's) Weimar Republic to me here."

"It's a real conflict for me when I go to a concert and find out somebody in the audience is a Republican or fundamental Christian. It can cloud my enjoyment. I'd rather not know."

- We have companies actively censoring performers
- Everything she said is within her decency clause
- Her livilihood is affected, negatively, for dedicating a song

Weimar Germany as an anology is a perfect snapshot of Ashkroft/Cheney/Bush's America 2004.

You, Homer, would be a Brownshirt. ( look up both this & Weimar )
A clue to your state of mind: a contrary opinion = enemy of the state. It's dangerous & must be handled. The label thing is another clue: I've been here long enough, and have stated frequently enough, that I'm neither a Liberal or Conservative. The last party I belonged to was Republican.
So how does my observation of an overboard & over reaching reaction by the Alladin Casino head qualify me as Liberal?

Well, Michael Moore has weighed in on the Linda Ronstadt controversy.

Open Letter to Bill Timmins, President Aladdin Casino and Hotel

Rather than quote the letter, I suggest you go read it. I think this whole incident has been blown way out of proportion. About 4500 people attended the concert. It's unclear how many people walked out. Some news reports say hundreds. If 400 or 500 people walked out, that's 10% of the audience. Yet they created sufficient disturbance that the rest of the audience couldn't hear the rest of the concert. The people who didn't like Linda's remarks certainly have the right of free speech, but in my opinion they are abusing their free speech rights when they create such a disturbance that the concert cannot go on.

I also think Mr. Timmins overreacted. Was it really necessary to have her escorted from the premises and refuse her access to her suite? Wouldn't it have been sufficient to tell her to remove her property from her room and hit the road?

The mega corp slave drivers not the government are the culprets in these cases...

I worry far far more about these mega corps power directly over citizens than i do the government. When these coprs can so easily deprive you of the means to support your life, over opening your mouth in a non approved or PC manner, they have too much power over the citizen....yeah yeah i know, its their right to protect their image/product. She was hired to entertain not talk about social issues...ect...ect...ect...

corps degrade their employees as much as the employees whore themselves to the machine.

But for corps to judge all employees guilty of drug use without cause and requiring you to prove it by wizzing in a cup before they give you a job is vile, and something we'd never put up with if it was the gov mandating this testing. To also allow any corp to punnish someone for expressing themselves is overboard.
Mega corps are gennerally way to involved in prying into peoples daily lives than the gov is.

And there is where my strongest opposition to this presidency lies: the absolute destruction of the barrier seperating corp. interests from political enablement...... from the FCC to enviromental regulation reppeal to tax abolishment to O/T restructuring to the culpability for creating Autistic children via poor drug manufacture being shielded in the Patriot Act.......it's all moving us towards the "RoboCop" America where OCC owns the police & town & ..........

Perhaps, "entertainer's" should stick with the "entertaining" and leave out the politics eh?

And Whoopi, she's just plain offensive...
