A car bomb in Beirut killed a senior member of the Hezbollah militia, reports say. The car was struck in the southern suburbs of the city. According to an unconfirmed report a Sunni Muslim militant group, Jund al-Sham, carried out the attack.
The Hezbollah-run television station al-Manar showed images of the exploded car. According to witnesses the wreckage of the car lay in the road, its glass shattered and blood stained the road beside it.

Hezbollah sources said Ghaleb Awali was killed as he was leaving his home on Monday morning.
[...]
The Hezbollah-run al-Manar television station showed images of the charred vehicle and hailed Awali as a "martyr" of the "Islamic resistance".

Hezbollah rebels played a central role in ending Israel's occupation of south Lebanon in 2000 and the group's leadership has been targeted by Israel's security services.

OY.

Jund Al-Sham (Arabic for Soldiers of Damascus) has links to Al-Zarqawi

ZARQAWI has arranged training for terrorists at al-Qaida camps. While he was in Pakistan, ZARQAWI made contact with al-Qaida to train Jordanians. His operatives (called "Jund al-Sham") began to arrive in Afghanistan in large numbers in l999. Some of these operatives trained at al-Qaida's al-Faruq Camp, where they received full support from al-Qaida.

The group is lead by a Palestinian from Tripoli's Nahr El Bared refugee camp who goes by the name of Abu Youssef Sharkieh, a former activist of the late Palestinian terrorist mastermind Abu Nidal's Fatah-Revolutionary Council,

Jund Al Sham's military wing is headed by Imad Yassin, a dropout from Abu Mohjen's Osbat Al Ansar which has long been blacklisted by the United States as a terrorist faction linked to Osama bin Laden's al-Qaida network.
