TA-ANALYSIS: Spaniard Judge Says Biggest Threath From Terrorism Comes From Morocco., page 1

Judge Baltasar Garzon, a Spaniard leading anti-terrorist judge, told investigators of the Madrid bombings that Morocco posses the biggest threat of terrorism in Europe, including Spain, since there are at least 1,000 Al Qaeda adherents capable of suicide bombings. Most of the 17 suspects jailed in the March 11 bombings are Moroccan.

"They use every means and mechanism, and their activity can even be initially perceived as ordinary delinquency," Garzon said of the cells.

"In my opinion it is the gravest problem Europe faces today with this kind of terrorism."

Garzon said his figures came from police and intelligence data.

Officials at the Moroccan Embassy could not be reached to respond to Garzon's allegations. Morocco, too, has done its share of finger-pointing at Spain since the train bombings, but both countries have pledged to work more closely against terrorism.

The two countries have been in dispute for some time now over several issues, but recently they have come into agreement to battle terrorism together. Althou in 2002 there was almost a military clash between Spain and Morocco due to territorial claims, fishing rights, and illegal immigration.

But that Islamic cells have been present since the early 1990s, and Muslims in North Africa maintain a historic claim of Andalucia since the Moors invaded it for 800 years.
