The National Security Agency (NSA) is conducting a counterintelligence probe at its Fort Meade, Md., headquarters in a top-secret hunt for a Russian agent, according to a former intelligence official close to the agency.

The former official said the probe grew out of the case of 10 Russian "illegals," or deep-cover spies, who were uncovered last summer and sent back to Moscow after the defection of Col. Alexander Poteyev, a former SVR foreign intelligence officer who reportedly fled to the U.S. shortly before Russian President Dmitry Medvedev visited here in June.

Col. Poteyev is believed to be the source who disclosed the U.S.-based agent network.

The hunt is on. Kinda reminds ya of a movie uh? This is probably the last we'll hear about this unless they find the mole and then shoot up the place. Thought this was worthy of our ATS friends here. I would speculate there have been and perhaps always will be a mole or four in the NSA and probably other alphabet agencys too. God I miss the Cold War. And those $500 toliet seats

So mentioning this in the WP, kinda gives a heads-up to the one they are looking for.

Will they be arresting the former intelligence agent who let the cat out of the bag,
thereby, tipping off a spy that they are onto him/her?
Treason yesy/no?

After all, wouldn't this be a more legititimate target than the J. Asange of Wikileaks.

I thought the same thing, why post it in the media at all? Apparently its just a diversion more than likely. But it is a heck of a topic for only a diversion!

in a top-secret hunt for a Russian agent

As the saying goes, guess it's not a secret anymore.
Furthermore seems like they're doing a bad job at it.

Americans 0
Russians 2

(1 for getting the agent there,
The other 1 for keeping him there while everyone knows he's there)
