An explosive device was detonated on board a Turkish Airlines plane at the Ataturk Airport in Istanbul. Turkish press is reporting three people were injured, including one man who lost several fingers. No deaths are reported.

The bomb exploded on the small aircraft as a crew was cleaning the plane after all passengers disembarked. Early reports say that a box or container of some sort had been left behind on the plane, and when it was handled, it exploded.

The plane appeared to be a Boeing 737, and it showed no external damage. The blast was described as "small."

CNN in Turkey is reporting that the blast came around the time Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfelt was due to leave Turkey, though this has not been confirmed by US officials.

Istanbul is hosting the NATO summit this week, which is being attended by world leaders including Tony Blair and George Bush. Security has been at an all-time high following several attempted attacks last week.

Again Turkey, the airport, explosives....
It seems if El Al's move to stop their flights there was not unfounded.

I'm interested to see what's next and if after the NATO summit the rest will return.
