Would a global war result in world unity?

No.

It didn't the first two times, so why would it the third?

We will never truly learn to live with each other until we learn to leave each other alone.

Short answer is no considering the fist two world wars did not accomplish such. The information age in which we live will eventually bring about a form of world unity. But we will always be divided as a species as long as we hold on to such notions as organised religion, not to mention the class divide that separates us more than geography these days.
