A small bomb exploded Thursday in front of a Turkish hotel where President Bush is expected to stay this weekend, and a police officer lost his leg in
the blast. The injured police officer was investigating a suspicious package in the street, Ankara police chief Ercument Yilmaz said. Police had
received an anonymous tip that a bomb had been placed nearby.

Police had been investigating the device after local residents notified them of a suspicious package some 75 metres from the hotel entrance.
The blast comes two days before Mr Bush arrives for talks with Turkish leaders, and to attend a NATO summit meeting.
Terror threat
Speculation as to the identity of the culprits is likely to focus on Islamic militants, Kurdish separatists, and left-wing groups, all of whom have
previously carried out bomb attacks in Turkey.
Security has been tight in Turkey in the run-up to Sunday's NATO summit in Istanbul, which up to 50 world leaders are expected to attend.
