Australias 1st Saint Excommunicated For Exposing Child Abuse

www.abc.net.au

Mary MacKillop was a nun who will soon be Australia's first saint, was excommunicated by the Catholic Church because she discovered children were being abused by a priest and went public.

I just found this story & was a little surprised, though I know some of you will ask why.

This happened way back in 1871. I wonder what this is going to open up. Surely there will be other countrys start looking for evidence going back further than I expected it could.

If this doesnt help the Vatican approve her sainthood then I dont know what else she has to do, I thinks its a noble act she did.

They are more concerned with having ex-communicated her.

I wonder if she was as concerned with that - or if they've missedthe damn point.

That ex-communication was less important to her than having stopped some child rapists.

The Catholic church has always put itself above all righteousness. To them, it's a sin only until someone in the clergy commits the same act.

And to wait more than a hundred years to say they're sorry?

Not surprising. When you have a profit based section of a religion, anything to stop the profit will be hated.

Such as this woman trying to stop the torturing of children.

What this nun did is completely inline with the teachings of the Catholic Church.

There are to things that one must bear in mind about priests.
First they are male, then a priest.
They should be held, as anyone in authority,
to a higher level of adherence to absolute objective moral standard.

We can applaud this nun for her demonstration of the virtue of courage.
