This is just complete madness. Here in New Zealand, we are getting screwed just the same as people are everywhere else.

Within the space of 1 Day everyones cost of living rose, yet again, meanwhile MP's got a payrise!!!!

What a complete and utter insult and joke. People are struggling all over the country with Petrol rises, Power Bill rises etc etc, and hardly anyone has had a decent payrise in years.

But the fat cats get a whopping 10% !!!

ETS will bring barrage of price rises: watchdog

Households will be hit hard and fast with a "barrage" of price rises because of the Emissions Trading Scheme that begins today, Consumer NZ has warned

This morning, many businesses, mainly fuel and energy companies, began charging their customers for the emission units the firms have to buy to offset greenhouse gases released as their goods and services are used

Consumers are facing a barrage of price increases over the next six months," she said

Taxpayers would also pay hundreds of millions of dollars in subsidies to businesses

What many New Zealanders cant fathom is the fact that we are part of all this Global Warming Emissions Crap, but we only have 3.5 Million people in this tiny country!!! What a joke. Countries like the USA and China are spewing way more crap into the atmosphere in one day that we are in a year!!!

Meanwhile, Climate Change Minister Nick Smith told a meeting of about 120 people in Wellington last night that it was time for New Zealanders to be courageous in playing their part in acting against global warming

And the very same day look at this !!!

MPs line up for a big pay increase

MPs are in line for a 10 per cent pay rise as compensation for losing international travel perks

The travel perk costs taxpayers about $600,000 a year. A 10 per cent salary increase for MPs would cost an extra $1.7 million

The Unite union, which represents 9000 workers, last night attacked the pay rise recommendation, saying it was unfair as many workers - particularly lower-paid people - were struggling as a result of rises in petrol prices, GST and electricity bills and the Emissions Trading Scheme coming to effect

This World is just awful. Whens it ever gonna change?

Its just as bad here in ireland, our TDs ( MPs to you) get paid hundereds of thousands each year, they screwd up the economy and have made a housing shortage in a country with only 5.5 million people but as usual we will moan and groan talk about its time for a change but as soonas our favorite tv show, soap opera, footbal team or idiotic jorden comes on tv we all forgive and forget because we dont want to leave our comfort zones

Update: it sucks even more now in NZ: they are selling the power companies (and telecom?) to foreigners, they will allow deep sea oil drilling, and they will allow fracking (dumping chemical in the ground to extract oil). This world is mad... what can we do?

#1 They are selling off parts of our power companies. Shares. Witholding a majority stake in all state owned assets.

#2 Telecom hasn't been state owned since 1990 - Source

#3 The government has allowed exploration of our wider coastal areas to see the viability of drilling in those areas.. We already have gas drilling and oil drilling in new zealand and have done for a long time.

You're right on the fracking part =)

#1 Right, it is bad. Why do you sell profitable business, when obviously the shareholders goal is to make money, and in the end kiwis will suffer as prices increase more than they would have if it was state owned.

#3 I heard they are considering deep sea oil drilling. This is very different from normal "not so deep" oil drilling. But I might be wrong that they are considering such thing.

NZ is still excellent place to be, I just hope they don't mess with it too much for the sake of short term money.
