G20? 2 overlaping a 0 makes 8, G (alarm clock)
but better yet, makes the ying yang symbol

The cost of hosting the G8 and G20 summits next month in Ontario now stands at $1.1 billion and further outlays are likely, federal documents show.

The price tag includes $160 million for hospitality, infrastructure, food safety and extra staffing. That amount is in addition to the $933-million security bill the Tories revealed earlier this week.

Why so much?

Security costs at previous summits

•G8 summit Japan, October 2008: $381 million
•G8 summit Gleneagles, Scotland, July 2005: $110 million
•G20 summit London, April 2009: $30 million
•G20 summit Pittsburgh, September 2009: $18 million US

"This might be the most expensive 72 hours in Canadian history," Liberal MP Mark Holland said.

The official price tag for security at last year's G20 summit in Pittsburgh was listed at $18 million US, according to municipal and U.S. federal officials.

Isn't that insane? The most expensive, by far, ever in history. For that cost they could have built a small town near a lake and then at least there would be something to show for it.

People are even being made to leave if they live in the area, or go through invasive searches. I'll bet the people that are being made to leave aren't even getting compensated.

Sound cannons, water cannons, plastic bullets, fences, fake indoor lake, new toilets, gazebos, security in every form available........

What are they expecting?

Protecting the "worlds most wanted" is getting expensive. Next year, they'll just have the G20 on the moon as that will be cheaper lol

If G20 rioters weren't just anarchists looking to burn and smash everything they can, it wouldn't be this expensive.

That's what the folly of burning things and smashing windows is going to get you, a higher price for security for the next meeting.

Now they're saying they aren't going to cover the cost of the vandalism, and insurance companies have also refused to cover the damage. Not saying we need to spend MORE money, but those poor business people that had their windows smashed and their inventory stolen. What are they supposed to do now? Just go out of business and then get billed for clean up costs? That should have been figured in too, since it was obviously expected. Over a billion dollars and they couldn't protect anyone but the "elite" people.
