maybe i go crazy but WHY IS THIS AN ISSUE??
seriously schools can whine about anything or say "it's distracting"
AS IF KIDS ACTUALLY PAY ATTENTION ANYWAY
HOW ABOUT INSTEAD OF FORCING KIDS TO SIT DOWN 8 TO 9 HOURS A DAY AND MEMORIZE USELESS FACTS THEY MAKE IT INTERESTING???

the problem is not silly bands or any other silly fad its BOREDOM.

how can anyone expect kids to listen to a teacher drone on about hypotenuses?
does the average joe need to know geometry to make a living?
can you give directions in algebra format?
how is it going to help me in life to know shakespeareian quotions?
dont get me wrong i like shakespeare but its unnecasary.
however the silly bands are a bit "silly" for lack of a better word in the article they discuss a kid stealing back his silly bands from a teacher but completeley passes up the cash in the desk. WTF????

sorry for the rant but schools and government really push my buttons

When I saw the thread title, I thought schools were trying to ban Primus...

I don't know why they would ban whatever was being discussed in the OP. Were they causing some sort of disruption?

If it's for elementary, then they need to bring recess back.

Plain and simple. PE doesn't cut it.

My kids still wear them in school here in Florida and they never said to me they were banned I am sure they would've said something as this is something they do every day, buy silly bands and wear them!

In one way, I feel it is stupid to ban them because school, at least american schooling, is somewhat useless. The most important thing I learned in school was to read and write. I didn't need 12 years to do it, though. I'm now studying to be an anthropologist, a field that was never once mentioned in those 12 years, let alone the mentioning of evolution. It's sickening the hierarchy of importance to the US schools.

In another way, however, I don't feel bad at all. Pokemon cards were banned from my school when I was in 4th grade, and we quickly got over it.
