What kind of car do you drive? ATS Poll:

I drive a Toyota RunX
(1400 engine) - I don't know anything about cars, just how to drive it.
It uses about 15-17 litres petrol per 100km.
I don't drive that much, working from home and all :-)
When I used to physically drive to another office, I used about 1/4 tank of petrol a week.
I can do about 600km plus (depending on traffic etc) on one tank of petrol.

What gives you the idea I like my little car. :-)

I live in South Africa so public transport is not an option. Using a bicycle or walking etc is also not an option. It's not safe. You get get murdered here for your bicycle. If anyone in our family goes for a walk to the park or cycles anywhere they take one of our huge, attack trained German shepherd with. This is of course short distances only, since we don't want to shred the doggies paws on the tar/ concrete.

I'm still rockin' a 1996 Toyota Camry I bought in High School, hahaha. I seriously love that car. 265,000 miles and still purrs like a kitten baby! Just a 4 cylinder, but she gets great gas mileage, and I take care of it. I usually only have to fill up once a week unless I'm out and about doing a lot. $6000 investment and has lasted me almost a decade!! How many people can say that about their ride?

factory rates my neon at 34 MPG, but thats impossible, as everyones driving habbits are not the same,a nd street traffic differs city to city. Some neo n mechanics have claimed at acheiving 44 MPG, screwing with its timing, using magnets on the injectors.

i fill about once a week, it has a 10.5 gallon tank
I drive apporximatley, 84 miles a week.

None, i never drove in my life.

That's £1.21 / Litre for the regular diesel. Shell V-Power, or it's BP (boooo) equivalent are even more expensive.
Petrol prices are now on a par with diesel again so it makes no sense to buy a petrol engined car and get lower MPG, especially with the amount of miles I do.

You are correct though, those VW 1.9L TDi engines are pretty much bombproof, hence the popularity across all the VW group models.

Paid $100 for it.
It had been parked for 15 years.
No smog needed in Calif.
Cheap insurance.
A pain to work on.

Exactly, you can just take in all the fumes of the garbage put out by cars.

Cars are good for going out at night, like its safer especially in places like london.

For me i doubt i will learn either.

i live in the country so its nice to go for walks....im a little spacy im afraid of accidentally running someone over. but cars are useful for most people. soon technology will disappear. i have a feeling no one will miss it though

4 cylinder engine 1.5 liters.

i can drive this thing 350 miles before i need to fill up again. 11.2 gallon tank.

It uses about 0.6 ltr pr 10 klm on higway and about 0.8 ltr pr 10 klm on average use. And its 19 years old

Oops forgot to mention: I use about one tank of gaz every other month (80 ltr) And the prise is just under 2 dollars pr LITER!!! Yep live in Norway...

In order of driving prefference:

1998 Dodge Durango 4x4 (outfitted for survival) 14mpg

2004 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer 16mpg

1970 Mercury Cougar (outfitted for badassness) 10mpg

2004 Honda Civic Hybrid 42mpg
(don't drive it much but thought it was cool when it came out)

1998 Lincoln Mark VIII 36mpg
(don't drive her much but it is a beautiful vehicle and they don't make them with this engine anymore)

oops, forgot fuel costs, I think it is around $3 bucks in my area??? give or take a couple cents? not really sure, I'll have to check when I get back on dry land. I live in North Louisiana

We sold the gas guzzling Land Rover and bought not 1 but 2 Scion XD's.

I get 33mpg and my other half manages 36-38mpg, part in town part on expressway. We both fill up once a week which usually cost us at Costco between 21.00-25.00 so far. We're talking 320-365 miles on a tank. 1.8 liter engines

The Scions are ok but I miss the Land Rover and it's massive front console. That console area had room for EVERYTHING! I'm really having withdrawals.

Oh and we just bought our daughter a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee (her first car) which gets 19mpg but she pays for the gas so we figure she'll learn sooner or later. $50.00 or more a tank is what she pays. V8
