Yes, the terminology used today is THREATCON.

It is not a secret, in fact I can remember 90% of the time I have walked through the doors of a PX or Class VI in the last ten years, there is a little card on the door listing the THREATCON. That is a good way to make sure the general base population is alert to any changes.

Most posts also have a phone number that anyone can call, not a DSN line, where a voice will recite the THREATCON. When I was at Fort Devens, as recently as perhaps 2005, the voice on the phone number said the THREATCON, listed any last-minute cancellations, and the fire hazard on the south ranges for the day.

Anyone could have dialed the number, it was no big secret.

I think the new Threatcon system changes hour to hour.But if this helps anyone this is how they use it now.
