Law enforcement officials are awaiting lab results on a white powder
that spilled out of an envelope addressed to Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer on
Tuesday. The discovery of the powder briefly closed the State Capitol in
Phoenix and sent Hazmat teams scrambling.
State police, Capitol police and the FBI are continuing to investigate after
Phoenix's Capitol Tower was placed on lockdown for about an hour after a
staffer opened the letter in the governor's offices there, the Arizona Republic
reported.

White powder sent to Brewer's office ruled non-toxic
Laboratory tests showed that a suspicious white powder addressed to Gov. Jan Brewer at the Arizona state Capitol contained no trace of toxic or hazardous substances, according to authorities who are still trying to determine the letter-sender's identity and motive.
Arizona Capitol Police Chief Andrew Staubitz said the lab results taken by Health Department officials confirmed that no employees were at risk in Tuesday morning's incident that shut down access to the Capitol Executive Tower for about 45 minutes.
