And to add to your eloquently stated point, let's not forget who is (at least partially) responsible for U.S. troops getting hooked on heroin in Vietnam:

Agents of the U.S. Government used drug production and trafficking operations to fund covert military activities in Vietnam. Large amounts of this heroin were sold to U.S. soldiers in Vietnam.

The war on drugs is a scamm by some in this government with the drug lords in other countrys a deal were one does nothing or appears to do something, and gets a big cut of all the profits, its big business and america is there main client. The key words are multi billion dollar industry. The fbi and cia dident go after the mafia because they wanted to get rid of drugs but because they wanted to take over that lucrative buisness. Stay off drugs they are a waste of money, and not good for you.
