Egg Swapping of DNA prevents some rare diseases in babies

LONDON, Apr. 15, 2010 (Reuters) — British scientists have mastered a controversial technique using cloning technology to prevent some incurable inherited diseases by swapping DNA between two fertilized human eggs.

Well this raises hope for some that aren't as fortunate as us. The article also says that the offspring might have 3 parents. 2 normal ones and one extra mother.

The resulting embryo inherits nuclear DNA, or genes, from both its parents but mitochondrial DNA from a second "mother" who donated the healthy egg. In humans, about 37 genes are found in the mitochondria -- the rest of the more than 20,000 known genes are in the DNA found in the nucleus.

I hope we are able to solve a lot of our own problems in humans using genetics. We are getting pretty advanced if I do say so myself.
