WASHINGTON -- The Presidents Commission on Moon, Mars, and Beyond has delayed the release its report to the public from June 10 to sometime the week
of June 14 because of the activities in Washington in honor of former U.S. President Ronald Reagan, Commission spokeswoman Susan Flowers said June
7.
Flowers said the commission is working with the White House to reschedule the release of the report and aiming for some time next week.
The 60-page report will contain recommendations on how to implement the space exploration vision laid out by President George W. Bush in a Jan. 14
speech at NASA headquarters. Bush set a goal of returning to the moon by 2020 with the longer term goal of sending humans to Mars. He also called for
completing the international space station in 2010 and then retiring the space shuttle fleet.
The commission, headed by former U.S. Air Force Secretary Edward (Pete) Aldridge, gathered public testimony during hearings held in Washington, New
York, Atlanta, San Francisco and Dayton, Ohio. It held its last hearing April 28.
