Recent discovery of the heaviest element ever found...brings to mind whats-his-name from area 51 who said spaceships were powered with element 115 (??)

Interesting read...

"A team of Russian and American scientists has discovered a new element that has long stood as a missing link among the heaviest bits of atomic matter ever produced. The element, still nameless, appears to point the way toward a brew of still more massive elements with chemical properties no one can predict"

element 117?

The articles referred to in the OP is very light on info. They observed 6 nuclei which decayed after a short period of time... Nothing earth-shattering...

If the "stable" super-heavy nuclei existed, we'd presumably detect some quantity of these metals like we observe Uranium. If "stable" means anything here, it means "relatively stable", which in turn means you can't really rely on the chemical properties of these elements to achieve any useful goal.

That is amazing that even now we are still discovering new elements, imagine the new technologies that will come about from this discovery...
