Inbreeding, in and of itself, is not a bad thing. It is only a bad thing when the bad genes align. I will use the example of livestock, since
inbreeding in humans is considered a rather touchy subject. If you breed two cows with excellent traits, it can "set in" the good traits.
Conversely, if you breed two with bad traits or that are carrying bad traits, it can "set in" the bad traits. The same is true of humans, of course.
Humans at a few points in our history were bottlenecked and had very little genetic diversity. Technically speaking, we are all inbred, though as time
wears on, new mutations cause more diversity.
