I know it is not hard but majority of everyday normal users like us does not know how to do it. These things come in handy when one needs to check outside material. I am not inciting crime or violence as you state, I am not asking anyone to kill someone or burn someone's building etc or any physical threat. The thing it has been already made illegal so what can you do about it nothing!! The only way is to bypass it or break it.

Do you remember the reasons why John Howard was voted out by an overwhelming majority ?

1/ He refused to apologize to the aborigines

2/ He once made a mistake about some illegal immigrants falling overboard

3/ He wanted to build several nuclear power plants in Australia.

4/ He completely stopped the incoming flow of illegal immigrants by holding them in prison camps outside Australia.

Four such terrible evil unforgivable crimes against the Australian people.
But it was all enough to see him crucified at the ballot box.

How long do you think the Rudd government would last if they started banning popular internet sites ?

Politicians may be devious shifty slime, but they are not THAT stupid.

With all due respect - crap.

These things were factors albeit minor ones.

The reason Howard was given the boot was "Work Choices" (ie legalised slavery).

Most Aussies actually approved of the things you mentioned. (I didn't).

yep agreed.

But would it stay legal if the filter goes up?
Because it was posted before the legislation?
Or does it just automatically become illegal??

The whole scheme is gray area.

Good question, Counter...

I believe any instructions to bypass a filter posted before doing same becomes illegal would be fine...Now whether the government could order a website, blog or whatever taken down if the filter becomes law I'm not sure...

And yes, the whole scheme is VERY MUCH a grey area....

I intend to try and get a look at the proposed legislation over the next few days if its available in the online version of Hansard or elsewhere...If I find it I'll post a link and also the specifics of whether bypassing the filter is a no-no...

Edit to add - As of close of business 16/3/2010 the bill had not been introduced to the House of Representatives so there is no info online regarding said bill...I will check daily for same

This is an issue i feel very strongly about. I have done a lot of research into the subject and compiled my findings in a report that can be found on my blogger page: fightagainstfilter.blogspot.com...
Its a bit of a long read (theres so much information to contain in it), but i think its well worth the read, especially for the uninitiated
