Just saw this come across the wire. 3.5 Magnitude earthquake reported occurring on the surface at no depth smack dab in the center of Tonopah Test Range in NV. What kind of bomb would be needed to create an earthquake of this size, or do you think it was natural?

MAP 3.5 2010/02/22 02:53:48 37.629 -116.796 0.0 39 km ( 24 mi) SW of Silverbow, NV

Well after reading phages link and coupled with the accusations the US is making against IRAN hiding nuclear bases inside of mountains I wonder if we aren't testing some super bunker buster bigger to take care of that problem.

Exactly my thought, and that's what my meaning was. As you say, I have a feeling this thread may lie dormant for a moment, but, will make a comeback, when the SHTF, hopefully not, but we shall see...

I wonder if a tactical nuke would create a disturbance of this nature? You are right though time will tell.

A 70 ton blast far exceeds what we have seen thus far with MOABS and Daisy Cutter ordinance:

On 11 September 2007 the Russian military announced that it had tested what it called the "Father of All Bombs". Described as the world's most powerful non-nuclear air-delivered munition, the Russian military claimed it was four times more powerful than the American "Mother Of All Bombs." While the Russian bomb was reported to contain 7.8 tons of "thermobaric" explosive, compared to the more than 8 tons of explosives in the American bomb, the Russian bomb was said to use more highly efficient explosive, with a yield equivalent to 44 tons of TNT. The bomb was reported to have a blast radius of 300 meters, double that of the American bomb, while the temperature at the epicenter was also reported to be twice as high

The Tonopah quake, if man made, would have made quite a blast for a conventional weapon!

If you go read Phage's link you would find this in the chart

Either they have a problem with determining the depth - see how many are 0, or a large number of bombs are being tested - in a hilly part of the range! No don't think so.

And we are BACK! We were on to something very possibly.

At about 1 minute the guy confirms the suspicions on this thread.

Hmm maybe they are going to nuke the oil leak. You would need to test to get the right amount would you not?

Yeah Phage's link is gone...but, what I remember from it was a chart that broke out how much TNT would be required to register on the Richter Scale.

Not sure it has any relevance, but I started a thread about a M3 that happened up near Yellowstone at a depth of just 100 meters. There have been over 10 such events in the last week all within a 1000 metres of the surface.
