Taliban Leader 'Killed In US Drone Strike'

The head of the Taliban in Pakistan has been killed in a US drone attack, according to Pakistan state television.

Hakimullah Mehsud took over as leader of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) group after his predecessor, Baitullah Mehsud, was killed in a US air raid in August last year.

The Taliban denied Baitullah Mehsud's death for weeks, apparently amid fierce infighting over his successor.

The TTP have been blamed for the deaths of thousands of people in attacks across Pakistan.

They are believed to have played a role in the suicide bombing of a CIA base in Afghanistan's east

So the whole thing goes full circle and starts again.

Leader apparently killed in drone attack. Taliban probably denies it to quell in-fighting. Security is stepped up due to possible revenge attacks. A new leader takes over and we're back to square one.

Bear in mind that this news came from Pakistani state television, so can it be true?

We'll see. This is just breaking so hopefully "more to follow".

The Taliban is not al Queda. Also, TTP has different leadership than that of TTA. Omar something...
