What's cooler than a hover-capable, electric-powered, super-quiet personal VTOL (vertical takeoff and landing) aircraft? If you answered "absolutely nothing," do read on, because NASA is preparing to oblige you. The space agency's Puffin aircraft design will be officially unveiled tomorrow, showing just how far personal, electrically propelled flight could change the ways we live and get around.

The Puffin is something of a personal V-22 Osprey, complete with vertical-takeoff and landing capability (but minus the squad of Marines). But rather than tilting the rotors forward for horizont

Oh yes , I gotta get one of these . Hope they come in Blue ...........

Not exactly the Hover Cars eveyone wants , but a great alternative to getting stuck in Traffic everyday . The one problem I do see with this is getting a License to Fly one . Old Folks would have a heck of a time getting in and out of that thing , at it appears it only holds 1 person . I wonder what the Traffic Cop Version would look like ?

Of course, the Puffin is so far just a cool digital rendering in a NASA-branded video...........

Just a concept at the moment. Looks cool, but that's it so far!

ps....do you want to edit your title to the original title in the article so folks know what this is more about......fits in with the forum's T&C.

I'll tell you whats cooler, those planet sized spheres circling the sun right now. Wish they would stop trying to make us look at insignificant things and tell us what the hell they are.

I like that it is electric powered

would it be possible to make the rotors spin and create electricity while diving to recharge the battery?

now that would be cool

I would imagine it would have some capability like that or it's Range would be severely limited to only short flights . Another thing to consider would be Emergency Landings ...........Look Out Below ! ..............

Wouldn't it hurt your neck to be laying down looking up for an extended period of time? I don't see this going to production.

yea, this just more junk to keep the public "interested" , and thinking that NASA is actually thinking about them.

People (the majority of) can't even drive a CAR properly!!
Imagine the scene now if they all had the ability to fly those cars.

better start tearing down any structures above, say.. over 10 feet high. lol

"NASA doesnt think about us!"

"Sure they do, see this, they introduced a big toy that no one will ever play with... and they were thinking about YOU when they made it" haha
