Still think we aren't ready for ET contact?

As of Thursday January 14, 2010, fully 69% of respondents to a Los Angeles Times online poll had cast a “Yes!” vote to the question “cast your own vote on whether you’d like officials in your hometown to prepare for E.T.”

The Los Angeles Times established the online poll on Dec. 3, 2009, followed the Nov. 27, 2009 municipal approval of more than 10,000 signatures for a voter initiative to establish a commission to “create a responsible, responsive, common sense strategy for dealing with issues related to the presence of extraterrestrial intelligent beings on Earth.” The Denver Extraterrestrial Affairs Commission initiative has been set for voter approval in August 2010 Denver elections.

Don't personally care if everybody's world falls apart if they are there (which I believe so), then who cares? No different to thinking your breath does not stink your while life to accidentally overhearing your wife talk about it to a friend (not me of course, still young lad lol). Can not someone's world be shattered by that? It all revolves around fear and insecurity. I say, let them all come and force everyone to look Fear in the face and see the peace of their ways/beingness. The lessons we learn could be more valuable than three generations of Human lives.

However, in refer to the OP, I find that really interesting and inspriging, as well as hopeful.

Also hear that they are introducing the concept more in school, more so than in even my times, and i'm soon to be 20 years of age. So... who knows/ Maybe it'll be slowly introduced, then comforted, then all out disclosure? I hear aliens would directly interfere if at least 10% of world population agreed.... so if we all know, and somewhat believe, maybe hope? Who knows the rewards that are possible? First off, I'd ask for assistance in finding and ridding of those select few who make the world how it is.

I would love the idea of extra-terrestrials coming to Earth and "landing on the White House lawn" as it were. With that being said, however, there are some big issues that would arise as a result of an alien landing/disclosure/mass sighting and or landing event. Every major world religion would topple given this news. There would most likely be mass suicides all over the world (IMHO) because many of these believers could not handle the information that we as humans are not the only ones in this vast expanse called the Universe.

I think I speak for many people when I say, I will welcome them with open arms, as long as they aren't here to enslave/destroy/dissect us. If they are here for the latter purpose, I hope that they have good armor, because me and Mr. .357 will be fighting back if that is the case.

With all that being said, the human race as a whole is in need of a huge paradigm shift, and our other worldly brothers could be just the catalyst for that.

I'm glad people in California (and people around the world) are finally seeing and accepting the truth that we are not alone in the universe.

I'm not sure I agree that would happen. Maybe.

I hate to sound callous but, if that is the case, then I think they and we might be better off. If people are so screwed up to that extent that they couldn't handle a truth like that being openly revealed then they are better off checking out IMO.

I don't much fancy living in a world where a good deal of the population wants to preserve a locked down, limiting, global system of denial and fantasy at all costs, even their own life. That's truly ridiculous.

Bring on the massive paradigm shifts, I say.

Not attacking you personally but you must be fairly optimistic (why?) that 'the aliens' will be saviour-type entities, to have written the above. And I suspect you have spoken for many in your post

No matter how I phrase this, it will most probably enrage people to varying degrees, but why do people hold the belief that 'the aliens' WILL be saviour figures in the mold of Superman, Batman and their ilk ? Why?

Humans can't even square their differences with their human neighbours and manage to live peaceably. Humans can't even decide as a group how to relate to animals. For example, humans make pets of some and eat and destroy others

Does it seem likely that humans would be able to exist peaceably with 'the aliens' ? If so, why ?

What is known about 'the aliens' and their intentions, their capabilities, other than speculation and fantasy ?

What if ? What if 'the aliens' regard humans as mere troublesome animals and decide (before their arrival) to dispense with them swiftly and possibly brutally ?

How effective do you imagine your Big Gun and the firepower of other humans would be against entities which are very probably interdimensional and thus impervious to gunfire or rockets or anything else the Human Tribe could throw at them ?

So what happens if that's the case ? What happens if 'the aliens' simply move with ease through the Human Tribe's massed-firepower ? Do you look down at your soon-to-be destroyed children and family and say, 'Sorry, I thought these would be the good guys '

And exactly what *IS* it that humans expect 'the aliens' to achieve on behalf of Mankind ? Are humans expecting 'the aliens' will distribute a cola which will rid Mankind of its prejudices and end petty crime and corruption, world-wide ?

So, if this were the case, 'the aliens' would cause the war-mongers and kiddie-porn peddlers and shoplifters and housebreakers etc. to suddenly see the error of their ways and become productive members of society. But would 'the aliens' also create more jobs for these rehabilitated crooks and thieves ? What about the arms-industry and Big Pharma ? What would they turn to after exposure to 'the aliens' ? Would they suddenly decide they no longer crave ill-gained billions of dollars and start collecting litter from the roadside ?

Or do people regard 'the aliens' as more of a peace-keeping force ?
Would 'the aliens' want to spend their time and energy stepping between fighting neighbours and nations ? Would they do it without pay ? Would they impose penalties for those who refused to toe the peaceful-line ?

Wouldn't some humans rebel against 'the alien' peacekeeping forces in exactly the same way they rebel against human authorities ?

Would there soon arise a situation where humans concocted conspiracy theories about 'the aliens' ?

Wouldn't we be back to square one, with 'the aliens' being yet just another group whom humanity no longer trusted ?

If 'the aliens' have half a brain in their skulls, shouldn't we assume they already realise what a thankless job Humanity would be, were they foolish enough to accept the job of 'parents' to humankind ?

Rather than project responsibilty for Humankind and Earth onto the shoulders of non-validated 'aliens' --- shouldn't we instead place that responsibility where it belongs (on humans) and where it will remain, until humans learn to behave the way they hope and wish 'the aliens' will be ?

I choose to believe in the good in everything around us. Who knows what might happen if they indeed do show up. All I know is that it would be good for human society to see that we are not alone and that if other beings can be peaceful, we should be able to do the same. I do see your point, and it is quite valid. Why bother fixing something that won't fix itself. I'll quote a like from The Protomen:

"But why should we save them when they stand for nothing? If they deserve life, LET THEM STAND FOR THEMSELVES."

I do have the sneaking suspicion that if there are ET's, they will feel this exact same way unless those of us that are (and always have been) willing to become peaceful beings show them that humans are capable of achieving this end.
