A person was detained by customs at Detroit Metro Airport on Friday following Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab's alleged attack on Northwest Airlines Flight 253, according to a spokesman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

It is unknown why the person was detained or whether the person will face any charges, spokesman Ron Smith told MLive.com.

Bill Carter, a spokesman with the FBI in Washington, D.C., said in an interview Tuesday that Abdulmutallab was the only person arrested or charged in relation to Friday's foiled attack.

With claims that a well dressed man had attempted to get the bomber on to the plane without a passport, and the story about the man who allegedly videotaped the entire event, you now have this story coming out where a Customs agent admits another man was detained.

The FBI still makes the claim that only one man was arrested, but eyewitnesses state the man was taken from the area in handcuffs to another area at Detroit Metro.

The interesting part of the story is where they man states that officials told them to clear the area because it may not be safe, and to read between the lines, since many of them had just seen what had happened. The passengers were moved to another area after the man was detained.

Haskell said the agents actions made him believe the man may have had explosives in his luggage, which was alerted on by dogs.

Makes one wonder if this was the video taper, or there is still more to the story we don't know yet.

Who is Ron Smith? And why does the CBP website not mention this?

www.cbp.gov...

The emergency information link says no incidents at this time, and the news reels only mention drug busts. So if this man was detained, who detained him? Not the CBP, or at least they are not mentioning it.

I'm not even sure why this guy Ron Smith would know anything about this. Anyone have a video of him?

Not sure who he is exactly, but ran a google search on him, and je is simply labeled a "spokesman" for the US Customs department. I found several google articles on varying topics in which he was the spokesman for, for US Customs.

Edit to add: ah found a picture of him:
