Hope I put this in the right place and it is ok to ask a question, because I don't have the answers.

There seems to be some dns problems on the web- does anyone know anything about this?

I've had some wankiness but I chalked it up to Comcast and their ongoing dns stuff.

The best I can tell, from non-tech friends with problems and twitter posts is that Godaddy has been down, and that AT&T still is not carrying their traffic.

If this is true that's a big chunk of web thrown into the dark. Virtual hosting makes it worse.

It seems to be ALL godaddy sites though, but I'm not sure, could just be the ones on a certain server.

Sounds like a DNS replication issue.

I'm in the dark though - anyone know?

Everytime there is a DNS issue I cringe. I figure one day someone will say, that's it, we are scrapping tcp/ip. We must redesign the web.

I know there are problems, and it is a vulnerability, but I fear it is more about control if it gets changed than safety.

openDNS DNS servers.

You can use them if you are having problems.

I'm hearing it was a routing problem with at&t, but it still sounds like a dns issue to me from godaddy themselves. (Cloned IP and slow replication at AT&T - think they use a whole, whole lot of IPX servers at AT&T)

It was mainly at&t customers with issues - best I can tell there was a larger outtage earlier in the day with residual problems ONLY for at&t.
