I seriously doubt that any "powers" are going to take over phones, computers, water, etc. Despite everything, these "powers" still need to tread
relatively softly. They cannot afford to make too many people too desperate, or they'll lose their power.
The "powers" maintain their grip by using a relatively few armed people to enforce their will. When people are eating, these few people can control
the masses. When people are going hungry, these few police or soldiers can't maintain their hold. People who are starving have nothing to fear, and
will overwhelm any forces trying to contain them.
You can only push the masses so far before they turn violent.
Anyway, I'll worry about all that when these "powers" actually take over. They can have my phone. I wouldn't much like them to get my computers,
but chances are that's not going to happen. There's too much money to be made through Internet sales to try to stop computer use.
