Hmmm, how many aircraft do you think are involved? There are something like 7,000 flights over the UK alone every single day.

The net results of all these flights is a slight warming.

If we wanted in in increase daytime contrails to produce a net cooling, how many more aircraft would be needed globally?

Plus, of course, there are only certain places on certain days where these contrails will form - hence we don't see them every day. It would seem a very inefficient exercise IMO.

Nonetheless, an interesting thought and I'm not sure anyone has modelled it? What would be the implications of, for example, increasing daytime flights and reducing nighttime ones?

I guess it'd be impractical to try and change flight times so that more aircraft few in daylight hours though. For starters - how would you get between Europe and America at Christmas without flying in the dark at all?

Replication of the effects of volcanic eruptions would involve spraying aerosols into the lower stratosphere - a bit higher up than most aircraft fly - and such aerosols would not be visible from the ground: it's only ice crystals that we can see that high up, when they form into clouds.

Not to mention the cost of trying to replicate those eruptions....imagine the amount of material the plane would have to carry to do this, not to mention defeating the high speed upper air winds at differing directions. Its simply not plausible
